Now landing in Iceland. 

It’s like landing on the moon.

Whisked away in our ride…

Home of the world’s best Coke, we kid you not! The local Coca-Cola is made from Icelandic glacial water and no corn syrup! No wonder “Icelanders drink more Coca Cola per capita than any other nation“. Other extremely interesting Icelandic facts you never knew here.

Our destination in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital and home to roughly around 120,000 people.

With a viking museum right next door which leads to below the hotel.

You’ll notice their love for corrugated iron and steel, the perfect building material for harsh weather with minimal care.

The House of Parliament…

This was also the center of protesting during the financial crises of Iceland…

The crowds gathered here banging pots and pans on the building’s walls. This was also referred to as the Kitchenware / Kitchen Implement Revolution.

Major protesting began 2008 and grew bigger the following year.

Approaching the old harbor area…

You can see the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center in the background. The glass facade is meant to reflect both sky and harbor, as well as the vibrant life of the city.

 

Reykjavik at night reminds me of Santa’s Little Village….

Geotourism in the city…

Streets seemed empty even after dinner.

We’d walk to a pub for our after-dinner warm alcoholic beverage, a delicious way to stay warm and toasty.

My usual became Irish coffee.

My auntie Edie gives a thumbs up! Thank you, Rachel! We heard you were treating a round of drinks from thousands of miles away!!!

And by the time we leave, it’s just in time for the weekend’s pub crawl, also known as Rúntur.

Since alcohol is very expensive…

Most have a pre-party at home and load up on the drinks.

They then hit the city nightlife after.

Meanwhile, waiting for us back at our hotel…
